Prayer for the Earth

Dear God, I praise You and thank You for Your goodness. You spoke and the world

came to be. And You saw that it was good. You have done all things well, more than

we can understand or even hope to imagine.

I know that You love the waterfalls with their power and lacy curtains of white. I’m sure

You love the small birds that hide in crevices and the large birds with majestic wingspans—though Your majesty is, of course, much greater and Your span past measuring.

And it seems You must love the tiny flowers that bravely grow and beautify almost every place on Earth. The animals, the trees, the wind and rain, every created thing You have made. I know You care, because You are good.

I ask Your mercy, Lord, on us humans, yes, please, and also on all that You have made.

If it is Your holy will, please protect the Earth and the trees and air and waters and fish

and animals and the soil.

Please let Your merciful rains fall in showers that nurture and grow without destruction.

Let Your bountiful snows accumulate where their cold and moisture and beauty will do

the most good, in Your sight.

Please hush the winds that would cause harm, the fires that would bring havoc and suffering. Please warm and cool the Earth according to Your wisdom and mercy.

Help us, Father, to be better stewards than we have been of all the lives, the blessings,

the beauty You have made. Mercy, Lord, on the animals. They are helpless and don’t

know what to do unless You guide them, protect them, shelter them. Kind of like us.

Please have mercy on all of us. Your will, Father, to Your glory. Thank You. In Jesus’ Name,

I ask.
