Golden Stars Fell from the Sky

(for Gold Star families—families who have

lost a loved one as a result of active military service)

The night was dark, no moon in sight,

Alone, I searched the sky for light

In stillness, lonely willow slept

And, as she dreamed in silence, wept.

Alone, beneath the slumbering tree,

A tender hand reached out to me

And then it gently grazed my cheek—

Though lips did part, I could not speak.

In stillness of that sacred space,

The sight of a familiar face

With radiant smile of one I knew—

In spirit, it was clearly you.

Dreaming under sleeping willow,

Head upon a wildflower pillow

I saw you enter heavens high—

As golden stars fell from the sky.
